Blythewood girls off to a 3-0 start

BLYTHEWOOD – Under second-year head coach Emily McElveen, Blythewood girls shot off a 3-0 start with holiday weekend tournament wins and season-opener win against White Knoll on Tuesday.

The Bengals went 2-0 in the She Got Next Thanksgiving Tournament at White Knoll on Nov. 29 and 30.

Blythewood faced off with Riverside to open play. Down 17-12 after the first quarter, the Bengals took a 36-30 lead into halftime. They downed Riverside with a 76-60 final behind Chase Thomas and Hayley Hightower. Thomas led with 24 points; Hightower put up 20. India Williams and Daniella Bosmans each chipped in 11 points.

Thomas, Hightower, Williams combined for 54 of the team’s points in their 61-56 win over Camden on Nov. 30. Thomas had a team-high 22 points and 14 rebounds. Hightower and Williams had 16 points each.

Blythewood got off to a slower start in their home opener against White Knoll on Tuesday. Up 17-14, they extended the lead to 33-23 by halftime en route to a 53-36 final. Thomas led again with 12 points. Hightower had 10.

The Bengals will host River Bluff Friday night. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m.
