Sumter lays out Westwood

SUMTER – Kam Fortune rushed for 111 yards and three touchdowns and John Peoples had 120 rushing yards and two scores as the Sumter football team rushed past Westwood 65-28 at Sumter Memorial Stadium Friday.

The Gamecocks (9-0, 5-0 Region 5-5A) had 437 rushing yards and seven rushing touchdowns. Quarterback Franklin Richardson was 5-for-5 in passing for 115 yards and two TDs. He also had 66 rushing yards and a score.

Westwood (5-5, 3-3) had 198 rushing yards and three touchdowns.

Quarterback Carrington Carter was 10-for-19 for 106 yards and a touchdown. He was sacked four times.

Sumter plays at Ridge View (6-3, 5-0) Friday for the region championship.

Westwood has an open date this week and is in fourth place behind West Florence, the Blazers, and the Gamecocks. The playoffs kick off Nov. 15.
