Mary Elizabeth Dixon (Mary Liz) Smith, 92, of Myrtle Beach, SC died on November 1, 2024. She was born on February 18, 1932, to Harry Tillman Dixon and Mary Sue Conner Dixon of South Boston, Virginia.
She is survived by three of her children; Donna Wilkins (Philip) of Winnsboro, SC, Hugh McIntyre Smith, Jr (Sally) of Conway, SC, and Rachel Suzanne Smith of Mt. Pleasant, SC. She leaves six grandchildren: Caroline Chisholm (Andy), Grace Wilkins (Patrick), Capt. McIntyre Smith (Caitlyn), Sarah Smith, Dixon Smith, and Katie Hancock (Tyler) and eight great-grandchildren.
Her beloved sister and brother survive her as well: Charlotte Ann Dixon of Myrtle Beach and Reverend Dr. Harry Tillman Dixon (Barbara) of Richmond, VA along with many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by a daughter, Mary Catherine Smith Hendrix (William Brooks, Jr.) of Blair, SC, and a grandson, Philip Charles Wilkins, Jr. (Ashley).
Myrtle Beach became her home again in 1999 after relocating many times during the years she raised her children. She quickly reunited with good friends from her days there as a young girl. After graduating from Myrtle Beach High School, she attended Columbia College then Westhampton College in Richmond, VA.
She was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church in Myrtle Beach until her last years. She was a member of the Presbyterian Women Breaking Bread Circle and later the Abigail Circle. She was ordained as a Deacon in 2010 and felt profound joy in serving our Lord and her church in this ministry.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, November 18, 2024, at 2:00 pm at the First Presbyterian Church, 3810 Robert Grissom Pkwy, Myrtle Beach, SC. Burial will take place at 2:00 pm, Tuesday, November 19, at the Fairfield Memorial Cemetery in Winnsboro, SC.
