FC blows by Chesterfield

WINNSBORO – Friday night in E.K. McLendon Stadium looked just about the same as it has all season – another lopsided Fairfield Central win. This time meant a little more to the Griffins as their 60-6 win over Chesterfield catapulted them into second round of the SC High School League AA State playoffs.

A Griffin interception from junior Dre Walker set them up on the Chesterfield 18 yard line.

Fairfield quickly punched in its first touchdown of the night on the legs of TyDarion Grier from seven yards out. A good point after attempt from the toe of Eric Martinez put Fairfield up 7-0 with ten minutes to spare in the first quarter.

The Chesterfield turnover for a Griffin score would be the first of four in the first quarter. With only two more minutes off of the clock, Walker intercepted another pass, this time for six points. Fairfield went up 13-0 after a missed point after.

Walker, who shared quarterback duties with Ford Davis and Kamauri Jones, completed a 50-yard pass to TyQuarius Shannon for a score. It was his only passing attempt on the night. Davis was 1-1 for an 18 yard pass to Jayden Boyd. Jones completed one of two passes for 47 yards to Jalen Squirewell.

The Griffins picked up 222 of their 337 all-purpose yards on the run. Grier led with 114 yards on 8 carries and three scores. Kenyan Douglas had 59 yards and a touchdown on five carries. Diggs picked up 36 yards and one touchdown on three runs. Boyd had one carry for 12 yards. Jones punched in one score from a yard out.

The Griffin defense was stout. Eleven Griffins shared 17 solo tackles in the win. The team had 74 total tackles on the night. Chauncery Turner forced two fumbles. He recovered one; Douglas McCloud and Wayne Johnson also had fumble recoveries.

The win puts Fairfield at 10-1 on the season. They will host a second round game on their home turf against Chesnee High School on Friday. Kickoff is set for 7:30.

Chesnee (6-5) defeated Ninety Six 26-21 last week. The winner advances to the quarter finals on Nov. 29. Fairfield, a higher seed, would host the winner of Central/Saluda.
