WINNSBORO – Friday night’s game against Eau Claire High School was all gas, no brakes for the Griffins as Fairfield Central blew past the Shamrocks 62-3.
Fairfield led 35-0 at the end of the first quarter. By halftime, they had already reached the final score, up 62-3.
The win was Fairfield’s second in region play and their seventh in a row following their Week 0 loss to a tough 5A Ridge View squad.
Since that loss, the Griffins have scored 306 points and allowed only 72 points scored against them. They have held their opponents to eight points or less in every game except Newberry, when they squeaked out a 49-42 comeback win on Homecoming.
With this week off, Fairfield, now 7-1, looks to extend their win streak to nine in their remaining two games of regular season play.
The Griffins will hit the road for their final games – Columbia High School (4-4, 0-2) on Nov. 1 and Mid-Carolina (4-3, 1-0) to close out the season on Nov. 8. Both region games, wins would seat Fairfield nicely in the playoffs, which begin Nov. 15.
