LUGOFF – The Blythewood football team overcame a 17-0 deficit to beat Region 5-5A opponent Lugoff-Elgin 37-24 at Demons Stadium Friday night.
Quarterback Johnny Collins completed 19 of 31 passes with four touchdowns to one interception. Collins connected with Carter Coleman and Kanye Reed for two scores apiece. One of Coleman’s TD receptions was a 69-yard catch-and-run effort to give the Bengals (5-2, 2-1 region) a 28-17 lead midway in the second quarter. Blythewood held a 28-24 lead at the half.
Coleman had six catches for 119 yards on the night and the Bengals rushed 30 times for 156 yards.
In addition to Collins’ TD passes to Coleman and Reed, Liam Flynn made a 27-yard field goal in the third quarter and Desmond Macklin had a rushing touchdown.
Defensively, Kemuel Little made seven tackles, four quarterback hurries and a sack, Silas Holmes made five tackles and a sack, and Shrine Bowl selection Sterling Sanders made three tackles and had five quarterback hurries. Tyler Davis and Jaylen Reeves each came down with interceptions.
Lugoff-Elgin (3-4, 0-3) travels to 3-3, 2-0 Ridge View Friday.
Blythewood plays host to West Florence Friday. The Knights (4-2, 1-1) fell 63-25 to region leader Sumter (7-0, 3-0) Friday night.
