SUMTER – Sumter raced to a 28-0 halftime lead over Blythewood en route to a 49-20 victory over the Bengals Friday night at Memorial Stadium.
John Henry Collins was 26-for-38 for 212 yards and two touchdowns but one interception for Blythewood, first to Kanye Reed and second to Carter Coleman.
With his team down 35-0 midway through the third quarter, Coleman had a 17-yard rushing touchdown to get the Bengals on the scoreboard.
Sumter quarterback Franklin Richardson also had 208 passing yards and two touchdowns with an interception. Richardson was 9-for-12.
Kameron Fortune had 10 carries for 114 yards and a touchdown and John Peeples had 105 yards and a score on 20 carries for the Gamecocks, who had 443 yards of total offense.
Blythewood (6-3, 2-3 Region 5-5A) has an open date this week and will play host to Ridge View Nov. 1 in its region finale. The Blazers (5-3, 4-0) are coming off a 41-16 dismantling of West Florence and also have an open date this week.
Sumter (8-0, 4-0) is also idle this week. The Gamecocks play Westwood (5-3, 3-1) Nov. 1 and are at Ridge View Nov. 8.
