BLYTHEWOOD – When Amazing Nails opened its doors Monday morning, the salon was not only celebrating 20 years in business in Blythewood, but it unveiled a whole new look – shiny white marble tile floors, new cream colored pedicure chairs and foot baths, new nail stations with white marble tops, newly painted walls with more shipments of furnishings to come.

Customers enjoyed refreshments as they took in the new look.

Owners Ellen Vo and Henry Dao, natives of Vietnam and residents of Blythewood since 2003, took over the management of the nail salon in the early summer of 2004, a year after a relative, Dina Phan, opened it in 2003. The salon was one of the first store fronts to open in the then-new IGA shopping center.

After twenty years, however, the couple decided it was time for an update.

“After a while, everything needs to be changed,” Ellen said. “It needs to be updated. So, we decided to do that.”

The salon closed on Friday, Oct. 5 for the renovation and reopened on Monday, Oct. 21.

Two of the first customers in the door on Monday were life-long Blythewoodian Martha McCoy, a realtor with Blythewood’s Home Advantage Realty Company, and John Moore, a Cobblestone Park resident. Both had pedicure appointments.

“The location for me is fabulous, and the care they give my nails is wonderful,” said McCoy who has been a customer for a number of years. “Kim always does my nails, and she’s not afraid to try new things. She also introduced me to gel powder for my nails which I love. I wouldn’t go anywhere else.”

The salon offers full service nails and pedicures as well as waxing. There are five full-time nail technicians that include Ellen and Henry’s son, Andrew. The couple also has another son, Jefferson, 25, and Jennifer, 22.

Located at 135 Blythewood Road in the IGA shopping center, the salon is open Monday – Friday from 10 a.m. – 7 p.m., and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Appoints can be made by calling 803-691-1040.
