ELGIN – Still the newest kid on the block, Westwood volleyball currently sits atop its region with a 4-0 record. Previously playing in the 4A class, Westwood moved into 5A Region 5 this year, and so far they haven’t missed a beat.
Westwood opened region play with a 3-1 win over Blythewood on Sept. 3, then followed with a 3-0 win over Ridge View on Sept. 5. Last week, they took down Spring Valley with a 3-1 win, and then defeated Lugoff-Elgin by another 3-1 margin on Tuesday.
Senior Camryn Jeffery tallied 24 kills, 18 digs, 4 aces and 3 blocks against Blythewood; 31 kills, 17 digs and 6 blocks against Spring Valley; and 38 kills, 14 digs, and her season-high 10 blocks against Lugoff-Elgin.
Lilly Almada had 30 assists, 6 kills, 5 aces, 5 digs and 2 blocks against Blythewood; 45 assists, 12 digs and 3 kills against Spring Valley; and 34 assists, 10 digs and two kills against Lugoff-Elgin.
The four game region wins are a part of Westwood’s 6-game win streak. They stand at 4-0 in region play and 7-6 overall.
The Redhawks traveled to Camden for a non-region game last night, but scores were not available by The Voice’s press deadline.
The Redhawks will host West Florence tonight for more region play. Next week they will travel to South Florence on Sept. 24 and then across I-77 for a rematch with Blythewood on Sept. 26.
