UNION – After a week 0 loss to 5A Ridge View, Fairfield Central etched a permanent tally in the win column. The Griffins downed Union County in a dominant 52-6 performance for their first road game of the season.
Union received the opening kickoff, but fumbled early for a Griffin recovery on the Union 34-yard line. Fairfield quickly punched in a 21-yard touchdown to go up 6-0. Extra point attempt was missed.
Union was forced to punt on their next possession, and Fairfield extended the lead to 12-0 with just over five minutes to go in the quarter on a rushing touchdown from five yards out.
Union struck once before the end of the first, but it would be their only score of the game.
Up 12-6, Fairfield added 15 more points before halftime to hold a solid 27-6 lead.
Fairfield received kickoff to open the third quarter. The punched in another rushing touchdown on a five-minute drive to go up 33-6. The Griffin defense kept the Yellowjackets out of the end zone, but Fairfield’s offense scored twice more in the third. They added another in the fourth to clench the 52-6 win.
The Griffins move to 1-1 on the season. They’ll host CA Johnson for 7:30 kickoff at EK McLendon Stadium on Friday.
