Griffins knock down Lewisville

LEWISVILLE – Fairfield Central football handed Lewisville High School their first loss of the season as they picked up win number three last Thursday in a 33-8 win over the Lions. Originally slated for Friday, the game was moved up because of anticipated inclement weather.

Fairfield scored first with a rushing touchdown from 10 yards. A missed extra point put them up 6-0 with just over six minutes to spare in the first quarter.

Lewisville’s offense entered the red zone twice in the first quarter, but Fairfield kept them out of the end zone – once with a fumble recovery and later with a turnover on downs.

The Griffins struck again on the ground in their first possession of the second quarter. A failed two-point conversion put them up 12-0.

Lewisville showed promise on their next drive, but another fumble in the red zone was recovered by Fairfield to end the drive.

The Lions found the end zone with three minutes to spare in the half on a 13-yard run. A two point conversion left Fairfield up 12-8 at halftime.

A 19-yard pass from Fairfield quarterback Ford Davis to TyQuarius Shannon was the only score of the third quarter. A two-point conversion put the Griffins up 20-8 late in the third.

A Griffin interception on their own 49-yard line set Fairfield up for another score in the third. Deep in Lions territory, Fairfield punched in another score on the ground and completed the point after to lead 27-8.

The Griffins ran in another touchdown with two minutes to spare in the game to go up 33-8.

Fairfield’s offense notched 318 yards on the ground for four scores. Senior Tydarion Grier led with 198 yards in 24 carries and one touchdown. Quarterback Kaden Diggs scored twice. He had 31 yards on 10 carries.  Kenyan Douglas had one touchdown. He ran for 48 yards on 12 carries.

Diggs had 8 completions in 11 attempts for 113 yards and an interception. Davis threw twice, once for a 19-yard score and once for an interception. The two combined for 129 yards through the air.

Jayden Boyd had five receptions for 102 yards. He also picked up 41 yards in two carries.  Shannon had the Griffins’ only receiving touchdown of the night on his solo catch.

The Griffin defense stalled Lewisville four times in the redzone, combining for 80 total tackles, seven for a loss of yards.  Christopher Pearson and Douglas McCloud Jr led the Griffins in solo tackles with four each. Antario James had two interceptions, Christian Hingleton had one. Kingston Peay forced a fumble. Noah Kendall and Peay each had one fumble recovery.

Fairfield faces its first region action at home on Friday for the school’s annual Homecoming game. They host Newberry at EK McLendon Stadium for a 7:30 kickoff.
