Eagle volleyball splits region games

WINNSBORO – In the thick of their season, Richard Winn volleyball moves to 5-3 following their most recent region games.

The Eagles hosted King Academy for a home-court thriller last Thursday. The Eagles took down the Knights 3-2 in a deciding fifth set.

Richard Winn dominated to open the match with a 25-13 win over the Knights. King recovered in the second set to take a 25-11 win and tie the match at 1-1.

The scales balanced as the two teams battled in the third and fourth sets. Richard Winn lost 25-22 in the third, but won the next set by the same margin. Momentum shifted, the Eagles pulled out a 15-8 win in the fifth to claim the win.

On Tuesday, the team traveled to Greenwood to take on region leader Cambridge Academy for the first time this season. Cambridge swept the young Eagle team with a 3-0 final. The Cougars took the match with 25-11, 25-13, and 25-7 wins.

The faced Newberry Academy last night and came away with a 3-1 win.

They will host Cambridge on Monday, Sept. 30.
