ANDERSON – Richard Winn volleyball picked up their second win of the young season on Tuesday at Anderson Christian.
Under first-year head coach Sydney Boulware, the Eagles made easy work of Anderson Christian with a 3-0 final.
Game one was all but over with the Eagles’ first server. Alissa Monroe racked up six aces in her 10-point stretch to put Richard Winn up to a quick 10-0 start. The Eagles took the 25-6 win to open the match.
Tied at 7 in game two, the Eagles extended their lead to 15-7 off the serve of Mary Margaret Swearingen. They went up 22-10 with Sarah Hughes serving and held on for a 25-12 win.
Tied at three in game three, Swearingen again gave the Eagles some breathing room, serving eight points to take an 11-3 lead. They would go on to take game three 25-11 to wrap up the match.
The Eagles’ sweep of Anderson comes on the heels of a 3-2 win at W.W. King Academy last week.
The Eagles fell 25-19 in game one, but recovered for a 25-18 win to tie the match at 1. King took game three with a decisive 25-12 win, but the Eagles won game four 25-15 to force a deciding fifth. They rode their game-four high into a 15-8 game-five win.
Facing a region-heavy schedule, the Eagles will host Wardlaw Academy tonight for their first home game of the season. They will travel to Laurens Academy next Thursday for a non-region game. Laurens won their second 1A state title in a row last year, but moved up to 2A in SCISA’s reclassification.
