IRMO – Blythewood girls’ volleyball opened their 2024 regular season with a big win over Dutch Fork High School.
The Bengals dominated in the first set, taking a 25-13 win over the Silver Foxes. They looked to end things early after taking a 25-20 win in the second set.
Dutch Fork battled back for a 25-21 win in set three, then won the fourth by a two-point margin with a 26-24 final.
The Bengals battled with Dutch Fork in the fifth set, which plays to 15 points, but must be won by two points. Blythewood claimed the win with a 22-20 final.
Bengal senior Kristen Galloway and sophomores Jade Wells and Riley Lyons led Blythewood with eight kills apiece. Juniors Makalah Ford and Rhelani Richberg had seven each.
Lyons had a team-high 12 aces and four blocks. Makalah Ford and Olivia Ford also had four blocks each.
Junior Mya Johnson had a team-high 28 digs. Wells had 23 assists. Freshman Charlotte Eddis had 13 assists and 12 digs in the win.
The Bengals travel to White Knoll for a 7 p.m. game tonight, then will travel across I-77 for a 7 p.m. match against Westwood on Sept. 3. They are set to host Spring Valley on Sept. 5 at 7 p.m.
