Bengals win historic home opener

BLYTHEWOOD – It was a historic night for Blythewood boys’ volleyball. In the program’s first ever regular-season match, Blythewood went 2-0, defeating AC Flora and Sumter in a home tri-match.

Blythewood took on Flora first. They took the early lead in the first set behind strong serving and net play from Illinois transfer middle blocker Russell Daniloff.  Flora closed the gap, but Blythewood squeezed past the Falcons for a 25-22 first set win.

Flora bounced back in the second set, taking the lead early. They held a six-point lead late, but the Bengals were able to tie the score at 23 behind timely serving from Alden Auspelmeyer. Flora took the next two points to win the set 25-23 and send the teams into a deciding third set.

Blythewood finished the third set with a dominant 25-11 win to take the 2-1 win over AC Flora.

Next, the Bengals faced Sumter, and they dominated from the first point. Blythewood took 25-4 and 25-9 wins over Sumter to move to 2-0 on the season.

Next week, Blythewood will host Indian Land on Tuesday for a 6 p.m. game, then will travel to Nation Ford on Thursday for a 6:30 p.m. game.
