COLUMBIA – WLTX News19 celebrated select Players of the Week on Wednesday, May 15 by selecting two athletes as Player of the Year.
Jalen Swilley, who was chosen as a News19 Player of the Week in early November, was one of two athletes from the Midlands to be selected as Player of the Year. Swilley was awarded a $1,000 scholarship from Westinghouse, the title sponsor of WLTX’s Player of the Week program.
Swilley, an Anderson University commit, played offensive and defensive line for Fairfield Central in his senior season. Swilley officially graduates on Saturday.
Also invited to attend at the ceremony was Richard Winn Academy’s Drew Spires, who was named a Player of the Week in mid-March. Spires graduated from Richard Winn earlier this month with plans to play football at The Citadel.
Nicole Kelly from Gilbert High School received the second Player of the Year award.
