LIBERTY, SC – Fairfield Central Boys’ Track and Field team took home more hardware this weekend, this time at the SCHSL 2A Upper State Championships.
The Griffin boys claimed the Upper State title with a score of 104, the best of 20 teams competing. Greer Middle College finished second at 93.5, and Silver Bluff placed third with a score of 68.
The Griffin girls team finished fourth of 20 teams with a score of 65. Greer Middle College’s 102.5 put them in first, followed by Gray Collegiate (91) and Mid-Carolina (75).
Their scores advance both teams to the SCHSL 2A State Meet, held Saturday, May 18 at Lower Richland High School.
Upper State Boys Meet
Jayden Boyd, Kristian Golden, Tydarion Grier, Jalen Swilley, Christopher Pearson and Hank White were top performers.
- Boyd finished first in 100m dash (10.63) and first in 200m dash (21.44). He also finished second in long jump (6.79).
- Golden placed first in long jump (6.8m) and second in high jump (1.9m).
- Grier came in second in 100m dash (10.67)
- Swilley placed second in shot put (15.04m)
- Pearson placed fourth in 100m dash with a season-best finish (11.01).
- White finished fifth in the 800m run (2:04.63) and in 1600m run (4.41.99).
- The boys’ 4x100m relay team finished in first at 41.78 seconds.
Upper State Girls Meet
University of Kentucky commit Sharmelle Holmes ended the day in a familiar way: with three first-place finishes. She finished first in the 100m dash (11.54), 200m dash (23.53) and long jump (5.82m). The 100m dash and 200m dash times were both her season-best.
Essence Terry-London finished third in the 100m dash (12.47) and 200m dash (25.91). Her 100m dash time was her season-best.
Katriel Moore finished fourth in 400m dash at 1:01.93.
The girls’ 4x100m relay team placed first with a season-fastest time of 48.28 seconds. The 4x400m relay team finished in second at 4:19.64, also a season-best time.
