Floyd McKinley Tanner was born in Winnsboro SC, to Floyd Ralph Tanner and Lola Bell Berry Tanner; he was one of nine children. Floyd was a graduate of Monticello High School 1954. He married his loving wife, Agnes Dean Boulware, in 1956, and shortly thereafter joined the US Air Force. Floyd and his family traveled the world together, from Japan to Great Britain, with many TDY detours in between. He bravely served his country for over 22 years in radar targeting systems, as well as computer programming. After retiring from his military career, there were additional positions he held during his long life. He was a prolific tinkerer, gardener, and skilled photographer.
He is preceded in death by his devoted wife and mother of his children, Agnes Dean. These children are: Linda Denell of Columbia, Anita Rae (Steve) of West Jefferson NC, Laura Anne of Columbia, and Donnie Lee (Elizabeth) of Winnsboro.
Grandchildren include: Jason Robert, Joshua Nolan, Brett Wayne, Daniel Aaron, Justin Tanner, Kenley Alexander, Andrew Davis, Austin Dean, Jordan Davis, Jonathan Michael, Thomas McKinley and Julia Dean. Floyd was additionally blessed with eleven great-grandchildren.
Also deceased is his second wife, Edith Annette Pope.
Floyd is predeceased by brothers Willard Royce (Irene), Julian Cecil (Nora), and James Alvie (Sharon).
Surviving siblings are: Doris Leola, Jonathan Noland (Brenda), Steven Arthur Lynn (Beth), Wilbur Darrell (Ann), and Ralph Kevin.
Floyd was a lifetime member of Lebanon Presbyterian Church, and followed his faith throughout his long journey.
The loss of this father, brother, family member, and friend is felt profoundly by his many descendants and those lives he touched.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, May 10, 2024. Committal with full military honors will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends for visitation from 12-2:00 PM in the church fellowship hall. The service will be live streamed from the Pope Funeral Home Facebook page.
