SPARTANBURG – Blythewood baseball ended their quest for the elusive 5A state title on Tuesday with an 11-3 loss at Dorman.
Blythewood trailed 2-1 after an inning of play. Dorman plated three runs in the third, but Blythewood whittled the lead to 5-3 in the top of the fifth. A six-run fifth inning sealed the Bengals’ fate as Dorman held on for the 11-3 win.
The loss eliminated Blythewood from the District 4 double-elimination tournament.
Blythewood opened play in the tournament at home against Dorman on April 30. Dorman out-hit the Bengals 13-8 and took a 7-1 win, putting the Bengals in a win-or-go-home situation.
Blythewood recovered with a 3-1 win over Nation Ford on May 2, then followed with a 13-4 defeat of Hillcrest on Friday.
The Bengals end the season 21-9 under first-year coach Travis Poole.
