HOPKINS – Fairfield Central Track and Field opened their 2024 season at the Diamond Hornets Invitational in Hopkins on Saturday.
The Griffin boys took a sixth place finish among 30 schools competing.
Jayden Boyd led the Griffin boys with two first place finishes on the day, both of which set new school records. Boyd was clocked at 10.61 in the 100m dash and 21.63 in the 200m dash.
Two Griffin relay teams finished in second place. Fairfield’s 4×100 relay team of Christopher Jackson, Boyd, Tydarion Grier and Christopher Pearson took second place with a 43.01 time, just behind Dutch Fork’s first-place 42.94 finish.
Boyd also ran in the 4×400 relay race with Derek Cammon, Jamie Brown and Hank White; the team finished in second at 3:45.95.
Other highlights on the day were Tydarion Grier’s sixth place finish in the 100m dash at 11.18.Kristian Golden took seventh place in long jump at 20-5 and eighth place in high jump at 5-9. Marlon Smith finished 13th in 400m hurdles at 1:05.91. Christopher Jackson finished 13th in triple jump.
The Griffin girls only competed in four events and did not qualify a team score. Essence Terry-London had the highest finish on the day for Fairfield. Terry-London finished 15th in the 200m dash finals at 27.13. Katriel Moore placed 16th in the 400m dash at 1:04.21.
Fairfield competed at Chapin High School against Chapin, AC Flora, Airport, Columbia, Lower Richland and White Knoll on Wednesday, but results were not available by The Voice’s press deadline. They are set to compete at the Redhawk Invitational on Saturday at Westwood High School.
