COLUMBIA – Former Fairfield Central Griffin student-athlete turned coach was recently awarded Coach of the Year for 5A Region 4.
Candace Bush, a 2002 graduate of Fairfield Central, is currently the head girls’ basketball coach at Dutch Fork High School in Irmo. Bush led the Silver Foxes to a perfect 8-0 record in region play, sweeping Lexington, Chapin, White Knoll and River Bluff.
Bush got her start coaching at Fairfield Central, where she was the head volleyball coach, junior varsity girls’ basketball coach and track coach for eight years.
Bush went on to work at W.G. Sanders Middle School, where she served as the school’s athletic coordinator and girls’ basketball coach.
Bush coached at Columbia High School for three seasons before being selected to take over the Dutch Fork program in July of 2023.
In her first season at Dutch Fork, the team went 23-4, falling to Summerville in the second round of the 5A state playoffs.
