BLYTHEWOOD – Blythewood High School’s mens varsity wrestling team continues to make strides. After dominating Spring Valley 81-0 and No.14 Pelion 59-16, the Bengals became the winningest team in program history.
Now 22-8 on the season Blythewood looks to add more wins to their record in the 5A State Playoffs.
Senior captain Rylan Madison also made history last week at Spring Valley when he secured his 108 career win to set a new career wins record for the program. The record was held by Matt Clack at 107 wins. With playoffs remaining, Madison is primed to add more wins to his record.
Madison (HWY) and co-captain Desmond Macklin (157lb) won their respective Individual Region III 5-A Championships on Saturday at the Region III Individual Tournament hosted by Clover.
Madison is now 50-6 on the year, and Macklin holds an impressive 38-9 overall record.
With a third place seed in the Upper State bracket, Blythewood will face No.3 Woodmont High School at Boiling Springs on Saturday, Feb. 3 in the first round of the duals playoffs.
Winners will advance to the second round on Saturday. The third round will be held on Feb. 5, followed by the semifinals on Feb. 7. The finals will be Feb. 10 at Dreher High School in Columbia.
