SPARTANBURG – Blythewood Girls Wrestling team dominated the Upper State Championships over the weekend. The Bengals won nine of their first ten matches at Boiling Springs High School. Head Coach Paul Watson said the rookie wrestlers performed the best they have all year. While Kami Burma (147lbs), Emma Hursey (122lbs), Kylee Kee (117lbs) and Audra Petroff (157lbs) didn’t qualify for state, Watson said they were “huge” at the meet.
Blythewood bested Rock Hill and Chester on Sunday before claiming the Upper State Championship title. In additional to the team’s bid to the State wrestling tournament, four individuals qualified to compete for an individual state title. 1st Place: Tiyanna Mack, Abby Burns, Keaundrea Bateman, and Aby Ely. Mack took first place at 132lbs. Burns finished in second place at 122lbs. Bateman(127lbs) and Ely (172lbs) finished in third place in their weight divisions.
