WINNSBORO – In the midst of a season of battling for wins, both Fairfield Central teams handled business down when their Hwy 321 rival came to town last Thursday.
The Griffin girls (9-8) set the tone for the night in the first quarter, pulling out to a 27-8 lead over the Cyclones. Chester rebounded to outscore Fairfield 13-4 in the second quarter to close in on the lead, but the Griffins mirrored their first-half start in the second half.
Fairfield held Chester to only eight points again in the third while they added 23 to take a 51-29 lead heading into the fourth. They closed out with a 62-42 win over the Cyclones.
Junior Jordyn Adams had a team-high 26 points in the win. Freshman Jazzlyn McMillan added 20 points, and Tamia Evans, also a freshman, scored 10. McMillan had a team-high nine rebounds. Adams had seven steals and three assists. Evans had four steals, and freshman Ashlynn Pinkney tallied three.
After losing to Chester by only six points when they crossed the county line in December, Fairfield seemed to continue to ride the momentum from Tuesday’s win over Columbia when they faced Chester again last week. The Griffin boys claimed a solid 60-49 win over the Cyclones.
Fairfield’s girls picked back up on Friday with a 66-16 win over Columbia. McMillan led with 28 points, 14 rebounds and six steals. Adams scored 23, had eight rebounds, five assists and five steals.
The Griffin boys (5-16) dropped their game at Columbia with a 43-35 final.
Both teams will play Eau Claire next Tuesday at home and Friday in Columbia.
