FLORENCE, SC – For the third time in this young college basketball season, Francis Marion University senior post player Lauryn Taylor has been selected as the Conference Carolinas Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, this time for the week of Dec. 11-17.
Taylor, a 5-11 native of Blythewood, S.C., averaged 21.0 points, 17.0 rebounds, 4.5 assists per game in two road wins last week. She shot 54.8 percent from the floor and was 6-of-7 at the foul line, while also registering one steal and one blocked shot.
Her week included a 22 point/19 rebound/4 assist outing at Young Harris College and a 20 point/15 rebound/5 assist performance at Augusta University. These were her fifth and sixth double-doubles of the season and the 32nd and 33rd of her career.
During the week, she moved into 18th place on the FMU career scoring list with 1,310 points and 15th position on the all-time rebounding list with 706.
Taylor is the only player in Conference Carolinas averaging a double-double on the season with 18.0 points and 11.3 rebounds per game. She is first in the league in rebounding and third in scoring.
It is the 10th time in her career that she has garnered Player of the Week recognition.
A two-time All-Conference selection – including Player of the Year honors last year – she was also selected to the Academic All-Conference Team for 2022-23.
Francis Marion (6-4) is in its Christmas break, but will return to the hardwood on Dec. 30 with a 2 p.m. road contest at NCAA Division I Charleston Southern University. The Patriots will return to Conference Carolinas play on Jan. 3 with a road game at the University of Mount Olive.
