LEXINGTON – Competing at the annual South Carolina Wrestling Officials Association (SCWOA) scrimmage, the Blythewood’s girls had the largest team in attendance.
Four Bengals went undefeated in the pre-season scrimmage: senior Liz Veguilla (126 lb); returning 132 lb State Champion Tiyanna Mack went 4-0; Abby Burns went 4-0 (120 lbs); and junior Abby Ely.
With eleven wrestlers participating, rookie Bengals also made big strides. Sophomores Eurora Daunheimer (106lb ) and Emma Hursey (120lb ) both got two pins on the day. Freshman Kami Burba (150lb) scored her first career wins.
“Our BenGALS squad has been putting in lots of hard work,” head coach Paul Watson said. “We will have the rookies ready by the time of qualifying for the State Championships! We have 14 high school girls on the roster, and are hoping to fill a few more weights now.”
The Bengal wrestling teams were set to host Sumter, Mid-Carolina and Airport on Wednesday, but results were not available at The Voice’s press deadline.
Blythewood will participate in the Aiken Hornet Hammer Invitational on Dec. 1 and Dec. 2, then travel to Dutch Fork next week for Dec. 6 and Dec. 9 matches.
