SUMMERVILLE – Richard Winn Academy traveled to Summerville, SC on Friday, October 6, hoping to claim their sixth victory over the Faith Christian School Knights. The Eagles won the coin toss and deferred possession to the second half.
The Eagles kicked off to the Knights to open play, and Faith Christian wasted no time getting on the scoreboard after a one-play, 53 yard run for a touchdown. Faith Christian could not convert the two-point play, but prevented the Eagles from scoring on the next drive. The Knights scored on a 95-yard run and led 12-0 after three offensive plays.
Richard Winn answered back as quarterback Charlie Bonds managed three scoring drives. Bonds completed a five-play, 34 yard drive with a four yard touchdown pass to Drew Spires. Spires completed the two-point conversion. Bonds found Spires a second time to culminate a five-play, 51 yard drive, and Josh Tyndall’s PAT kick put the Eagles ahead 15-12. Bonds led the Eagles 84 yards downfield before crossing the goal line on a two yard run. Tyndall’s kick gave the Eagles a 22-12 lead going into halftime.
The Eagles struck first in the third quarter, as Bonds completed a four-play, 48 yard possession with a 19-yard touchdown scamper. Spires converted for two points, and the Eagles led 30-12.
The Knights brought the score to within six following a 53-yard touchdown run, but the Eagles responded as Bonds found Spires open for a 50-yard touchdown pass. Spires again converted for two points, putting the Eagles up by 14, 38-24.
Faith Christian would score once more on a 20-yard pass for a touchdown. After successfully converting the two-point play, the Knights trailed 38-32 as time expired.
Tyndall recorded 7.5 tackles on defense for the Eagles. Bonds completed eight of 15 passes for 145 yards and three touchdowns. Bonds rushed for 141 yards on 14 carries and scored twice. Spires caught seven balls for 117 yards and three touchdowns, and also ran 40 yards on four carries. Landon Smith also caught a pass for 28 yards, and Eli Smith ran the ball 11 times for 75 yards.
The Eagles will host Oakbrook Prep for Homecoming in Winnsboro on Friday, October 13. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30pm.
