NEWBERRY – Blythewood and Westwood cross country teams took to Newberry on Saturday for the Bob Jenkins Coaches Classic. Despite a muddy course, both schools had solid results.
Blythewood’s teams competed in the International Varsity division. The boys finished in 9th place with of 41 teams; the girls’ team finished in 14th place of 37 teams in the division.
Westwood’s teams competed in the Championship Varsity division. The Westwood girls’ times compiled for 11th place of 35 teams; the boys finished in 39th place of 47 teams.
Blythewood
Jacob Powell was again the top Bengal finisher for the boys. His 16:27.23 finish was good enough for 13th place out of 272 runners. Grayson Gibbons of Southside Christian was the top finisher at 15:48.09.
Spencer Shealy followed Powell in 38th place with a 16:53.03 time. Graysen Manning finished 68th at 17:13.61. Eureka Washington ran the course in 17:26.05 for 81st place. Dillan Boyer crossed the line at 17:58:33 for 136th place. Karlin Hogue had a season-fastest 18:49.98 for 219th place.
Mallorie Hogue finished first for the Bengal girls with a 20:09.47 time for 27th place out of 245 runners. Fort Mill’s Alivia Cleveland finished first on the day at 18:31.95.
Anna Kelly ran a 20:20.90 time for 40th place. Kaitlyn McFadden came in 101st place with a 21:40.47 time. Jurnee Warren clocked at 22:10.99 for 137th place, and Paige Kelly finished at 22:59.05 in 171st place. Scarlett Baker finished at 23:07.40 and Judeah Warren ran a 23:25.06 time.
Westwood
The Redhawk girls were again led by the Ashleys. Emma Ashley had a fifth place finish out of 272 runners with a time of 20:18.54. Jais Ward of Ben Lippen finished first at 19:30.79.
Eighth-grader Rebecca Ashley finished in 9th place overall with a 20:51.48 time. Christina Tyndall finished 76th at 23:20.54. Jamiya Carter had a time of 24:17.07 and Sarah Banbury ran the course at 26:42.75.
Sean Bullock led the Redhawk boys with a 20:09.29 finish for 127th place out of 315 runners. Blaize Owen finished next at 20:14.84, followed by Tristen Hudson at 21:00.17, Nicholas Stewart at 21:21.30, and Bryce Washington at 22:03.87.

Blythewood hosted a dual with Spring Valley on Wednesday, but results were not available at press time. They will head to Rock Hill for the Region 3-5A Championship on Oct. 25.
Westwood will host the Region 5-4A meet on Oct. 24.
State Qualifiers are held at Newberry College’s Cross Country Course on Oct. 3 and 4. The top 16 teams in each classification will compete in qualifiers.
