BLYTHEWOOD – Fairfield Central cross country took to Blythewood last Wednesday for a 6-team meet at Westwood High School. The Griffins competed against Great Falls, Lower Richland, Richland Northeast, Sandhills School and Westwood.
Fairfield’s boys finished second out of the six teams, just five points behind Westwood.
Despite the Griffins second-place finish, Hank White led the 46 male runners with a first-place, 17:07 finish. Sidney Wilson finished behind White at 20:36.00 for fifth place overall. Jesus Vaquez placed 10th at 21:48.00. Parker Douglas (22:45) finished 17th and Brenton Mack (22:51) finished in 18th place. Krishi Patel (23:00 for 19th place), Jamari Johnson (25:59; 35th place) and Jared Dixon (26:23, 39th place) also competed for Fairfield’s boys.
The Griffin girls had only three runners compete, so they did not qualify a team score. SaKira Hayes was the top Griffin finisher at 27:52 for 7th place out of 22 runners. Teairra McDuffie placed 8th at 28:35, and Brittany Mack placed 13th at 31:06.
White competed solo in the Lake Murray Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 16. He finished in 60th place out of 286 runners with a 17:30.20 finish. He also ran in the International Boys division on Sept. 1 at the Eye Opener in Spartanburg. Out of 389 runners, White placed 124th with a time of 17:32.40.
The Griffins ran at South Pointe on Tuesday, but times were not available by The Voice’s press deadline.
