Emmett Elmer Craven, 83, of Winnsboro passed away on Saturday, August 26, 2023. Born in Micanopy, FL, he was the son of the late Ervin M. and Edith Chauncey Craven.
Emmett is survived by his wife of 60 years, Alice Strickland Craven; son, Emmett Roger Craven (Deidre); daughter, Tracy Marie Hacker; brother, Jimmy Craven (Jean); sister, Betty Jean Honeycutt; and two grandchildren, Shane Ekris Hacker (Hannah Russell), and Sabrina Marie Hacker.
In addition to his parents, Emmett is predeceased by four brothers, Vernon Craven, Ervin Craven, Earl Myers Craven, and Eddie David; and two sisters, Mattie Sayles, Joanne Jewell, and Thelma Chavis Haskins.
Emmett retired after 20 years in the US Navy as a Senior Chief. He served 2 years in the Vietnam Conflict as well as serving in the Panama Canal Zone and Rio-de-Janeiro, Brazil. After retiring from the Navy, he moved to Winnsboro where he retired again from the VC Summer Nuclear Station. Emmett had a true passion for serving his community. He was twice the Past Master of the #11 Winnsboro Masonic Lodge and Knight Templar, as well as a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Free Mason. He was an active member and Deacon of Crooked Run Baptist Church. He was true outdoorsman that loving hunting, fishing, and gardening. His sense of humor was boundless, and he never met a stranger.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, September 1, 2023, at Crooked Run Baptist Church conducted by Reverend Tommy Hutto. Burial with full military honors will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8:00 PM Thursday evening at Pope Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Crooked Run Baptist Church.
