COLUMBIA – Brianna Rodriguez, the UCF commit and 4A defending champion in four events, set a new PR in 100m hurdles at Ridge View’s Blazer Twilight Invitational on March 31.
Rodriguez took first place in 100m hurdles with a time of 14.07. She also claimed first in 400m hurdles at 1:02.40.
Westwood’s only other top finisher was Noah Jennings, who also set a new PR with his 22-5.5 first place finish in long jump. Jennings is committed to play football at Charleston Southern next year.
Other highlights were Dominick Young, second in the 300m dash (35.47) and Malachi Whitmore, fourth in discus at 143-5. Ticora Gaskin placed fourth in long jump (16-5) and Ja’Keyia Martin-Maybin finished fourth in the 100m dash (12.13).
The Redhawk boys’ 800m sprint medley relay placed second (1:33.12), and the 4×200 meter relay team placed fifth (1:31.26).
Blythewood High School also had a handful of top finishes at the invitational. Jacob Gary placed first in the 300m dash (35.28), and Chase Simmons placed first in triple jump (41-3) and discus (149-1). Kaleb Kelly finished second in 110m hurdles (14.96). Jacob Powell placed fourth in 3000m run (9:18.25) and Santana Wright placed fifth in discus (137-7). The 4×200 relay team finished second (1:29.19) and the 800m sprint medley relay finished fourth (1:34.38).
For the girls, Arianna Williams placed second in 300m dash (39.41). Janiya Wilson (high jump 4-8) and Ashlynn Scott (100m hurdles 15.73) had fourth place finishes. Olivia Taylor placed fifth in 300m dash (41.21). The girls’ 800m sprint medley relay placed first. The 4x200m relay placed second, and the distance medley relay finished fourth.
