COLUMBIA – Despite allowing three runs in the fifth inning, Fairfield Central defeated Keenan 15-5 on Friday.
In the first inning, the Griffins got their offense started when Nygel Woodard singled on a 2-0 count, scoring one run.
Fairfield put up six runs in the third inning. Nygel Woodard, Blake Gambrell, Kaden Diggs and Tyon Belton each drove in runs during the inning.
Joseph Gonzalez earned the win on the mound for Fairfield. He went three innings, allowing two runs on two hits and striking out one. Belton threw two innings in relief.
The Griffins tallied 13 hits in the game. Jonathan Warren, Nygel Woodard and Gambrell all managed multiple hits. Warren went 3-for-4 at the plate. The Griffins stole 13 bases during the five-inning stretch. Four players had more than one; Diggs stole three.
The win puts Fairfield at 11-7 this season, with three games remaining this week. They played Great Falls on Wednesday, but scores were not available at press time. They’ll host Lancaster tonight at 7 p.m. and travel to Dreher on Friday for another 7 p.m. game.
