BLYTHEWOOD – The Westwood softball team outlasted River Bluff 16-15 in extra innings Friday night, then followed up with an 11-1 victory over Providence in six innings Tuesday.
Westwood’s 3-run eighth inning broke a 13-13 tie after seven innings. River Bluff picked up two runs in the bottom of the eighth, but Redhawks pitcher Izzy Ridgeway finished off her complete game with three strikeouts in the eighth to seal the win.
Ridgeway gave up 10 hits and 10 unearned runs, but struck out 10. She also went 3-for-5 with a double.
Azaria Belton went 4-for-5 with a double and a triple and 5 RBI. Jada McConnell had three hits and two RBI. Tracie Harris and Taylor Blevines had two hits apiece. Blevines also doubled, along with Makayla Drakeford, who had two RBI.
Against Providence, Westwood evened the score at 1-1 with a second-inning run, then hung four more runs in the third inning, three more in the fourth, one in the fifth, and one in the sixth.
The Redhawks, who only had six hits Tuesday night, cashed in on seven Panthers errors. Belton was 2-for-4 with a double. McConnell had two RBI.
Westwood heads to Lexington to take on Providence Thursday night.
