WINNSBORO – The Town of Winnsboro was notified earlier this month that it has been selected to receive a $420,825 federal grant for improvements to Fortune Springs Park. The grant is through the SCOR ARPA-funded Stormwater Infrastructure Program.
“Fortune Springs Park is the flagship of the town’s parks,” Town Administrator Jason Taylor said. “It includes a fish pond, an Olympic-size pool, tennis courts, playground equipment, a pavilion, and a wooded area.
“We thought it (the grant) was a long shot, but we put in for it and we won. We don’t know a lot about the grant yet,” Taylor said. “I’m happy we got it, and we’re going to use it to make lots of improvements to the park.”
Taylor said much of the grant will go to improving drainage and hardscape structures, such as the tennis courts in the Park.
“This was brought to Council some time back and is part of federal money that was handed down through SCOR,” he said.
The Town has also applied for a grant for improvements to Friendship Park.
