BLYTHEWOOD – Following Hank White’s March 18 school best time of 4:39.79 in the 1600m run at the Sumter Gamecock Invitational, three more Griffin track and field runners have broken school records during the Bob Jenkins Coaches Classic at Westwood High School on March 24. The Griffins competed with 24 area high school at the Coaches Classic.
Sharmelle Holmes claimed a first place finish with a 11.70 time in the 100m dash, breaking the school’s record in that event. Holmes also placed second in the 200m dash with a time of 24.80.
Like Holmes, Tydarion Grier set a new Fairfield Central record with a time of 10.85, also in the 100m dash. Grier’s time placed seventh on the day. He also competed in the 200m dash, placing 16th at 23.25.
Jurnee Warren rounded out the Griffin record breakers, setting a new one with her 6:00.31 finish in the 1600m run. She placed 13th in the event on Saturday.
Other runners may not have broken school records, but 14 more Griffins set new personal bests.
Katriel Moore set two new personal records in the 400m dash and the 200m dash. Moore finished 8th in the 400m dash with a time of 1:02.62 and 17th in the 200m dash with a time of 27.91.
Essence Terry-London also set two new personal bests with her 17th place finishes in two events: 13.02 in the 100m dash and 1:06.27 in the 400m dash.
Tierra McDuffie’s time of 2:53.88 in the 800m run at the Coaches Classic was also a personal best. She finished 22nd in the event.
Judeah Warren’s 6:15.45 time in the 1600m was her personal best in the event. She finished in 18th place.
In the boys’ 400m dash, Jamie Brown had a personal best time of 52.26, good enough for 10th place on the day.
Christopher Pearson had a personal best time of 11.35 in the 100m dash for 15th place.
Erdreus Walker’s 2:27.37 time in the 800m run was his personal best. He placed 25th in the event. David Rivera Basabe also set a personal best in the 800m run with a time of 2:33.94 for 30th place.
White, who set a new school record earlier this month in the 1600m (4:39.79), was just under one second shy of a new record in the event with a 4:40.21 time. White set a new PR in the 3200m run at the Coaches Classic with a time of 10:24.84. He placed 6th in the event.
Krishi Patel also had a PR in the 3200m run with a time of 13:40.73. He placed 21st.
Antario Jones set a new personal best in long jump at 19-9. He placed 13th in the event. He also placed 19th in triple jump at 37-8.
Jaquan Bates’s personal record was in shot put. He placed 20th at 36-6.
The Griffins returned to the track on Wednesday at Dreher, but scores were not available at press time. They’ll compete in the Blazer Twilight Invitational on Friday and go back to Westwood for a meet on April 5.
