WAXHAW, NC – Blythewood and Westwood’s track and field teams compete din the Clash of the Carolina’s on March 18 in Waxhaw, NC. Over 90 schools and track clubs competed in the meet.
Blythewood’s Chase Johnson brought home the only first place finish on the day for either Blythewood school. He topped the podium in discus at 144-0. Johnson also finished fifth in shot put at 43-11. Kaleb Kelly finished seventh in the 110m hurdles at 15.51.Jacob Gary placed seventh in the 400m dash. Tyler Davis placed eighth in discus at 126-4, and Harrison Knight placed 10th in discus at 121-4.
The Bengal boys’ 4×100 (42.89) and 4×400 (3:28.02) relay teams finished in third place. The 4x200m relay team finished in fourth place at 1:30.16. The 4×800 relay team placed seventh with a time of 8:46.05.
Blythewood’s girls’ team had a handful of top-five finishes. Hailey Duncan, Arianna Williams and Zion Harvey had second place finishes in their events. Duncan clocked a 12.25 in the 100m dash, Williams finished the 400m dash at 57.36, and Harvey placed second in long jump at 17-5.5.
Other top-five finishers were Aminah Rhone (5th) in the 300m hurdles at 48.13 and the 4×200, 4×400 and 4×800 relay teams. The 4×200 (51.37) and 4×800 (10:08.78) relay teams placed second, the 4×400 relay team finished third (4:02.60).
Hayley Hightoward placed sixth in the 800m run at 2:25.19. Ashlynn Scott’s time of 17.08 put her in seventh place in the 100m hurdles. Madison Ross placed eighth in the 300m hurdles with a time of 49.33.
Westwood standout Brianna Rodriquez pulled a second place and third place finish for the Redhawk girls. Rodriquez finished second in the 300m hurdles with a time of 44.43 and third in the 100m hurdles at 14.52 seconds. Ticora Gaskin placed fifth in long jump at 16-11.7. Harper Ramsdale placed sixth in pole vault at 9-0.
The Westwood girls’ 4×400 and 4×800 relay teams finished in the top ten. The 4×300 relay team finished seventh with a time of 4:14.41, and the 4×800 relay team finished ninth at 10:58.49.
Redhawk distance standout William Tyndall pulled the top finish for the boys. He placed second in the 800m run with a time of 1:58.55.
Noah Jennings pulled a fourth place finish in long jump at 21-7. Malachi Whitmore placed sixth in discus at 129-10. John Yi finished 10th in pole vault at 10-0. Westwood’s 4x100m relay team finished fourth with a time of 43.17, and the 4×400 relay team finished sixth at 3:33.45.
On Wednesday, Westwood was set to compete at Keenan and Blythewood hosted Clover, but times were not available at The Voice’s press deadline. Both schools will compete in the Bob Jenkins Coaches Classic on March 25 at Lower Richland High School.
