BLYTHEWOOD – The Blythewood softball team topped Dutch Fork 6-5 Friday and pounded Fort Mill 11-3 Tuesday night in a pair of home games.
Against the Silver Foxes, the Bengals overcame a 4-1 deficit with a 3-run fifth inning and a 2-run sixth.
Blythewood loaded the bases to start the fifth inning on two errors and a walk. Karen Hughes drew a second walk and scored Maya Van Zyl. With one out, Ashlee Hoile hit a double that scored Ashley Duncan, but Hughes was thrown out trying to score. Kylie Sanders reached on a 2-out error that scored Raygan Segars.
I’yanna Velez grounded into a fielder’s choice that ended the inning with the score tied at 4.
In the sixth inning, the Bengals’ two runs made it 6-4. With one out and two runners on, Duncan doubled and scored Josie Smythe and Van Zyl.
Lily Zell pitched five innings for the Bengals. Lauren Hardy pitched two innings of relief and got the win.
Duncan, Van Zyl, Smythe and Velez each had two hits for the Bengals. Duncan had two doubles and Hoile had one.
Against Fort Mill, Blythewood used a 5-run second inning to take a 6-0 lead on the Yellow Jackets, and made it 8-0 after a 2-run third inning.
Van Zyl had two homers and drove in five runs to lead the Bengals. Lauren Hardy had two doubles and Velez had one. Segars went 3-for-4 and Neilah Browne had two hits.
Blythewood travels to Nation Ford Friday.
