Missing person workshop set for Feb. 4

COLUMBIA – The Richland County Coroner’s Office is offering assistance to families who are searching for missing loved ones.

Families who are missing a loved one will have the opportunity to open new reports and have them entered into the NCIC (National Crime Information Center) and NamUs (National Missing and Unidentified Persons System). The families of the missing person can donate their DNA for CODIS (Combined DNA Index System).

Verogen will provide family members with DNA kits and will upload their DNA into the company’s genetic genealogy databases. Innovative Forensic Investigations will help families upload their kits to databases and is offering to monitor any kits collected at the event.

The event will be held on Saturday, Feb. 4, from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. at Segra Park, 1640 Freed Street in Columbia.
