COLUMBIA – Fairfield Central’s girls faced off with a tough Columbia team in a region contest on Tuesday. Despite battling to the end, the Griffins fell 57-54.
Down by one after the first quarter, Fairfield held a 26-22 lead at halftime. The Griffins extended the lead 39-34 in the third, but the Capitals put up 23 points in the fourth to overcome the Griffins for the win.
The loss come on the heels of two region losses to a tough Gray Collegiate team last week.
Columbia gave Fairfield’s boys their third region loss of the season with a 77-44 final. The Griffins other region losses come at the hands of a 2-1 Gray Collegiate Academy. Columbia moves to 1-0 in the region with the win.
Both Fairfield teams looked to get back in the win column Wednesday when they hosted non-region games against Newberry, but scores were not available at press time. They’ll host Columbia on Friday. Girls tip-off is set for 6:30 p.m. and the boys will follow.
Fairfield will host Great Falls at home on Jan. 26 and travel to Mid-Carolina on Jan. 27. They’ll face Eau Claire Jan. 31 and then will host the Shamrocks on Feb. 3. Their last region matchup of the season will be against Keenan. They’ll host the Raiders on Feb. 7 and travel to Keenan on Feb. 9.
