LEXINGTON – Blythewood boys and girls opened their regular season in style, with big wins over White Knoll on Tuesday.
Down by 1 after a quarter, Blythewood boys held the Timberwolves to only four points in the second quarter and scored 21 of their own for a 34-18 lead at halftime.
White Knoll regrouped at halftime, but the deficit was too great to overcome. Blythewood took the 71-28 win.
Will Olden led Blythewood with 13 points. Josiah Pack and Tray Mazyck had 11. Jaiden Guess scored 10.
Blythewood played in the Capital City Tip-Off last week, where they defeated Northwestern and Richland Northeast.
The Bengals easily handled Northwestern in Monday’s game. Up 34-26 at halftime, Blythewood blew past the Trojans in the second half, outscoring them 38-21 for a 73-47 final.
Tuesday’s game against Richland Northeast was the opposite. Blythewood found themselves trailing by 4 after a quarter of play and upped their offensive output in the second quarter to take a 30-24 lead into halftime.
The Cavaliers put up 11 to Blythewood’s 9 in the third quarter to pull within four points. Trailing 35-39 to start the fourth quarter, the Cavaliers closed in on the lead even more, but fell short as Blythewood took the 49-48 final.
Pack led Blythewood with 16 points; Mazyck had 11.
Blythewood Girls
After pulling a 1-2 record in AC Flora’s preseason Tip-Off tournament last week, Blythewood girls basketball opened regular season play in dominant fashion, with a 70-39 blowout of White Knoll.
Blythewood opened the tournament on Nov. 19 with a 57-34 win over Aiken. They followed up with a Monday evening game against the tournament hosts.
Down 13-20 against Flora on Monday, Blythewood outscored the Falcons 14-9 in the second quarter to close the gap to two points. They trailed 27-29 at halftime.
Flora’s offense produced in the second half, putting up 35 points to Blythewood’s 23 to take a 64-50 final.
Blythewood’s faced Lexington last in the tournament on Tuesday. Up 48-32 at halftime, Lexington proved too much for the Bengals as they finished with a 73-59 final.
Now sporting a 2-2 record, Blythewood will travel Ridge View on Friday for a 6 p.m. tip off. They will host Fairfield Central for their home opener on Tuesday.
