WINNSBORO – For the second week in a row Fairfield Central’s defense held their opponents scoreless.
Their most recent victim: Newberry High School by a 48-0 margin.
Griffin freshman quarterback Cameron McMillon completed 7 of 10 passes for 178 yards and three touchdowns. Sophomore Ford Davis completed three of four passes for one touchdown.
Senior Jai Boyd tallied 103 yards on three receptions, one for a touchdown. Senior Donovan Watkins also had a receiving score. He caught 2 passes for 47 yards and had a 50 yard punt return.
TyDarion Greer had 5 receptions for 64 yards. On the ground, Greer found the end zone twice, tallying 85 yards on two carries. Senior Kensley Copeland had 35 yards on 5 carries.
Myles Roberson had 12 tackles on the night. JaShaun Manning had 11 tackles and CJ Sampson tallied 10. Stephano Gadsden had 9 tackles. Gadsden, Sampson and Josh Green each were credited with a sack.
Watkins and Jailan Yarborough each had an interception in the blowout win.
Following their 13-point loss to Region Champ Gray Collegiate three weeks ago, Fairfield has outscored their opponents in the past three games 168-12.
Fairfield Central (7-3, 5-1) now enters the SCHSL Class 2A playoffs as a two seed. They will host Ninety Six on Friday in the first round of the single-elimination bracket. Ninety Six went 5-5 on the regular season and finished third (2-3) in Region 1-AA. They defeated Mid-Carolina 28-12 earlier this season; Fairfield defeated Mid-Carolina 41-20.
The winner will face the winner of Silver Bluff and Mid-Carolina next week.
