LAURENS – The Richard Winn Academy Eagles faced off against the Laurens Academy Crusaders in the 8-man football regular season finale on Friday, October 28. The Eagles dominated the contest, outscoring the Crusaders 58-28 despite 90 yards in penalties.
The Eagles had a commanding lead heading into halftime, scoring on every offensive possession and leading 45-12.
Eagle quarterback Landon Caulder was seven for 10 passing with 137 yards and three touchdowns. Drew Spires was the leading receiver for the Eagles, scoring two touchdowns and netting 79 yards on five receptions. Jacob Chaisson also caught a 35-yard strike for a touchdown. Rob Wilson snared one ball for 23 yards.
The Eagles’ running game was explosive, collecting 290 total yards on the ground. Chaisson was the leading rusher with 124 yards on eight carries and one touchdown. Wilson had a 69-yard touchdown scamper. Travis Bonds carried the ball across the goal line and had 48 yards on 3 attempts. Caulder ran the ball twice for 25 yards and a score.
The Eagles averaged 12.2 yards per play and accumulated 427 total yards.
The Crusaders managed just two touchdowns in the first half, with offensive production stifled by three interceptions, including a pick six by Drew Spires. Bonds and Lawson Wade recorded the other two interceptions. Wade and Wilson had three tackles for loss each. Spires and JT Wilkes also had tackles for loss. Wade led the defense with 15 tackles. The Crusaders showed spirit in the end, gaining 153 yards on their final two offensive plays.
The Eagles finish the regular season 6-3 overall. Richard Winn will host the Jefferson Davis Academy Raiders on Friday, November 4 in the first round of the SCISA 8-man football playoffs at Ruff Field in Winnsboro.
