ROCK HILL – Blythewood clinched its first region championship since 2012 with a 31-7 victory at Rock Hill Friday night.
After the Bengal defense forced a three-and-out on the opening possession, Blythewood capped their opening drive with a 1-yard TD run from Harrison Collins. A 34-yard field goal from Ryan Hart extended the Bengal lead 10-0 with 6:26 left in the first half.
Another Collins QB sneak put Blythewood on top 17-0 with just under two minutes left in the first half.
Blythewood scored twice more in the second half on Zahir Jones runs to clinch the win and the Region 3 title.
“I could not be more proud of our guys,” head coach Jason Seidel tweeted following the win. “To see all their hard work pay off has been a blessing. I am fortunate to be around these players and coaches everyday [sic]. We still have a lot of work to get done… Let’s get to work!”
Blythewood (7-2, 4-0 Region 3-5A) closes out the regular season against Spring Valley (4-6, 2-3) Friday. The Vikings fell 47-16 to Nation Ford last week.
