BLYTHEWOOD – Pawmetto Lifeline is sort of the other vet in town.
With a theme of giving homeless pets a ‘new leash on life,’ this 501c3 not-for-profit group based in Columbia provides a number of services for dogs and cats at affordable prices in outlying areas, including Blythewood and Fairfield County. Those services are delivered via a Care-a-Van mobile unit that visits scheduled locations every Friday, Saturday and Sunday on a 4-week rotation.
Care-a-Van is next scheduled to visit Blythewood, Ridgeway and Winnsboro Road on Aug. 28.
Blythewood: 3:30 – 5:30 p.m., Aug. 28, in the grassy area in front of the IGA located at 135 Blythewood Road.
Ridgeway: 2 – 3 pm., Aug. 28, at Bows and Ties Grooming located at 714 US Highway 21.
Winnsboro Road: 5 – 6 p.m., Aug. 28, at Buddy’s Country Store located at 7989 Winnsboro Rd.
Services for dogs include:
- DHPP – $12 (puppies will need a series of 4)
- Rabies – $12
- Bordetella (Kennel Cough) – $22
- Influenza (Canine Flu) – $22
- Heartworm Test – $25 (required for all dogs over 6 months old prior to selling heartworm prevention)
- Microchip – $25
- Puppy -Dewormer – $4
- Adult De-wormer – $15
Services for cats include:
- FVRCP – $12 (kittens will need a series of 4)
- Rabies – $12
- Feline Leukemia – $22
- Microchip – $25
- Kitten De-wormer – $4

An auto-refill prescription program is available to send monthly prescriptions to the pet’s home with no shipping costs.
The organization has four Care-a-Vans that serve approximately 1,000 pets every weekend.
Pawmetto Lifeline also offers a program that provides free microchips for pit bulls owned by Richland and Lexington County residents.
The myriad list of services also includes Boots in Service – a program that offers foster care for veterans’ pets while they are in a rehab situations. Vets are often the foster parents in the service of other vets who need the help.
All proceeds from the Care-a-Van go to benefit homeless pets in the Midlands.
