CHAPIN – After rain ended the final two matchups at the Aun & McKay Classic in Chapin on Friday, Fairfield Central hit the field Saturday morning for two quarters of play, one against Chapin High School and Gray Collegiate each.
After falling to Gray Collegiate 14-6 in the first quarter, the Griffins topped Chapin 12-0 to end the morning. Against Chapin, Jai Boyd scored on the first play of the quarter, and Cam McMillion threw a touchdown pass to Jalian Yarborough. Donovan Watkins had three interceptions for Fairfield on the day.
Boyd was named Offensive MVP for the Aun & McKay Classic. Watkins was named Defensive MVP and McMillion was named Game MVP.
The Griffins open the season at home on Friday (Aug. 19) against Carvers Bay. They’ll travel to Andrew Jackson on Aug. 26 before hosting Chester on Sept. 2. Then Fairfield will hit the road for back-to-back away games at Lancaster (Sept. 9) and Keenan (Sept. 16) before a bye week on Sept. 23. They return to travel to Mid Carolina on Sept. 30, will host Gray Collegiate on Oct. 7. Their last road game of the regular season will be Oct. 14 at Columbia High School. Fairfield will host its Homecoming game against Eau Claire on Oct. 21 and honor seniors at Senior Night against Newberry on Oct. 28. Kickoff for all games is 7:30 p.m.
