Seniors awarded Blythewood Rotary scholarships

BLYTHEWOOD – The Rotary Club of Blythewood announced the winners of its annual scholarships on May 26 at its weekly meeting.

“These Seniors were interviewed and selected from a strong pool of candidates from high schools in the 29016 zip code,” said Buddy price, a member of the scholarship selection committee.

Five Blythewood area high school seniors will find their paths to college a little smoother, thanks to scholarships the Rotary Club of Blythewood awarded Thursday.

The club awards scholarships annually to graduating seniors in memory of Blythewood Rotarians.

Jordan Jeffers was awarded the Joe Sharpe Scholarship in the amount of $3,000, and Caroline Nutter was awarded the Wendy Broderick Scholarship also in the amount of $3,000.

Riley Johnson, Zachary Brown and Madeline Webster were each awarded a Blythewood Rotary Scholarship in the amount of $2,000.  Each of these scholarships are Rotary Club of Blythewood Memorial Scholarships in memory of Frank Riley, Wendy Broderick and Joe Sharpe.

Jeffers, a senior at Blythewood High School, plans to attend the University of South Carolina Honors College and major in neuroscience. She is an honor roll graduate, an AP Scholar, a member of the Honor Forum and a Palmetto Fellow.

Nutter, a Blythewood High School senior, will attend Clemson University where she will study chemical engineering. Nutter is a Duke Tip Scholar, AP Scholar, National Junior Scholar, and a member of the National Science Honor Society.

Johnson, a senior at Blythewood High School, plans to attend the University of South Carolina as a public health major. She is a member of the National Honors Society, Science National Honor Society, a Palmetto Fellow and Capstone Fellow.

Brown, a Blythewood High School senior, will attend the University of South Carolina where he plans to study science, technology, engineering or math. He attended Palmetto Boys State, is an Honor Roll Graduate, Advanced Placement Scholar, and was awarded the Nature Chem Academic Award.

Webster, a senior at Spring Valley High School will attend the University of South Carolina and major in sports and entertainment management. She is a Palmetto Fellow, a member of the National Honor Society, Chair of Make a Wish Foundation, and a Deans Scholar (USC).
