BLYTHEWOOD – Blythewood High School recognized 18 members of the Class of 2022 Wednesday who have committed to continuing their athletic careers on the collegiate level. The seniors are slated to gradu- ate from Blythewood High School on June 1.
Jaylin Allen, son of Chanetta Williamson, announced his commitment to play football at St. Andrews Uni- versity in Laurinburg, North Carolina. Allen, a defensive back for head coach Jason Seidel, totaled over 20 tackles this season for the Bengals.
LaTavia Bracey-Ransom, daughter of Henry Ransom and Leah Williams-Ransom, will continue her track and field career at Converse University in Spartanburg, South Carolina. Bracey-Ransom, who ran multiple events for head coach Aleshia Taylor, is a two-time All-American from the Nike Outdoor Nationals. Bracey-Ransom helped lead her team to a second place finish in the 2022 5A State Championship Meet.
Destini Brown, daughter of Curtis and Yolanda Brown, will continue her cheerleading career at Coastal Caro- lina University, in Conway, South Carolina. Brown was a co-captain of the cheer squad for head coach Britta- ny Moore. Brown has been cheering for 11 years, including four with the Blythewood varsity team.
Makeshria Brown, daughter of Nigel and Lutrica Pate, will continue her track and field career at Fayetteville State University in Fayetteville, North Carolina. Brown, a sprinter for head coach Aleshia Taylor at Blythe- wood, won the 2021 5A State Championship in the 100 meter hurdles event. Brown is a four-time All-Ameri- can and helped lead her team to a second place finish in the 2022 5A State Championship Meet.
Kayla Chiles, daughter of Kendrick and Dr. Wendy Chiles, will continue her cheerleading career at North Carolina A&T State University in Greensboro, North Carolina. Chiles was a captain for head coach Brittany Moore. A varsity squad member since eighth grade, she helped lead the team to four region championships.
Matthew Clack, son of Jamie and Becky Clack, will continue his wrestling career at Newberry College in Newberry, South Carolina. Clack wrestled for head coach Paul Watson at Blythewood. Clack earned All-Re- gion honors each of his four years in high school and was twice named the Regional Wrestler of the Year after winning the Region Championship. Clack placed fourth at the State Championship Meet this year and has earned All-American honors at the Throne National Championship Meet.
Tatiyahna Davis, daughter of Karl Davis and Oneyke Davis, announced her plans to continue her cheer- leading career at Navarro College in Corsicana, Texas. Davis cheered for head coach Brittany Moore at Blythewood. Davis has won multiple World Championships on the cheerleading circuit. As a member of the Navarro Cheer Team, Davis will be part of Cheer: Season 4 on Netflix.
Briana Green, daughter of Aleshia Taylor, announced her plans to continue her track and field career at Southern University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Green was both a jumper and sprinter at Blythewood High School, where she was coached by her mother. Green earned six varsity letters at Blythewood High School and has earned All-Region, All-State, and All-American Honors. Green won the 5A State Championship in the Long Jump at the 2022 South Carolina High School League State Championship Meet.
Barry Hardy, son of Barry and Keba Hardy, announced his plans to continue his track and field career at Francis Marion University in Florence, South Carolina. Hardy was a middle distance runner for head coach Jason Warren and a cross country runner for head coach Will Epps. Hardy earned All-Region honors in both track and cross country for Blythewood.
Stephen Lang-Spittler, son of Keith Spittler and Sabine Lang, announced his intention to continue his base- ball career at the College of Charleston in Charleston, South Carolina. Lang-Spittler was a catcher for head coach Banks Faulkner at Blythewood. Lang-Spittler earned All-Tournament Team honors at the prestigious International Paper Classic, helping his team win the championship. Lang-Spittler helped the Bengals earn Region Championships in each of the last two seasons.
Haley McCoy, daughter of Scott and Martha McCoy, has accepted a scholarship to continue her softball career at Coker University in Hartsville, South Carolina. McCoy played first base for head coach Jordan Atkin- son at Blythewood. McCoy earned All-Region honors on the field while also earning All-Academic honors in the classroom. She received the team’s Gold Glove Award for our outstanding defensive contributions.
Eric Montgomery, son of Jennifer Oree, announced that he’ll continue his wrestling career at Limestone University in Gaffney, South Carolina. Montgomery wrestled for head coach Paul Watson at Blythewood. Montgomery twice earned the program’s MVP Award for outstanding achievement. Montgomery finished third at the 5A State Championship Meet this past season, one of the highest finishes in school history.
Jermaine Nelson, son of Jermaine Nelson and Krystal Nelson, announced his intention to play basketball at Spartanburg Methodist College in Spartanburg, South Carolina. Nelson was a point guard for head coach Zeke Washington at Blythewood. Nelson was a three-year letterwinner at Blythewood, setting a team record for assists. Nelson finished in the Top 10 in the state for assists as a sophomore.
Jake Parker, son of Jason and Sabrina Parker, announced his intention to continue his football career at Palmetto Prep Post Grad Academy. Parker was a wide receiver for head coach Jason Seidel at Blythewood. Parker was named a team captain as a senior and earned the team’s Leadership Award.
Kennidy Peterson, daughter of Greg Peterson and Kin Harris, announced her intention to continue her cheerleading career at South Carolina State University in Orangeburg, South Carolina. Peterson earned multiple varsity letters for head coach Brittany Moore. Peterson helped lead the team to the 5A State Cham- pionship Meet in 2021.
Nathan Smith, son of Ceaser Canzater and Stacy Smith, announced his intention to continue his soccer career at Lenoir-Rhyne University in Hickory, North Carolina. Smith earned multiple varsity letters for head coach Robby Setzler at Blythewood.
Davis Wright, son of Bill and Anna Wright, announced his commitment to continue his baseball career at Spartanburg Methodist College in Spartanburg, South Carolina. Wright pitched for head coach Banks Faulk- ner at Blythewood. Wright earned three All-Region selections as a Bengal and was named the Region’s Pitch- er of the Year in 2021. Wright, an All-State selection, will graduate tied for the most wins in school history.
Samaad Wright, son of David and Tikeya Wright, announced his plan to continue his basketball career at Spartanburg Methodist College in Spartanburg, South Carolina. Wright played guard at Blythewood for head coach Zeke Washington, earning All-Region honors his senior season.
