BLYTHEWOOD – Redhawk soccer hosted Irmo last Thursday. Westwood took an early lead behind a Tyler Jackson goal. The sprinting goal was set up by a well-placed goal kick from freshman Cullen Henderson and a glancing header into the open field by senior Zyere Lee. Unfortunately, the early lead was short-lived as Irmo responded to the goal by roaring to an 8-1 victory.
The following evening, Dreher hosted the Redhawks, opening with three quick goals. Westwood junior goaltender Alex Daniel-Perez regrouped to resist further attacks, but the team eventually fell 6-0. Youth was served for much of the contest in Memorial Stadium, with freshman Alex Drakes and sophomores Xavier Brown and Yonis Ramos-Urbina flashing glimpses of the future against the potent region leaders.
This week, the Redhawks (3-7, 1-4) will look to secure their second region win, hosting Richland Northeast (2-11, 1-5) on Wednesday and A.C. Flora (9-3-1) on Thursday before taking a week away to enjoy Spring Break.
