SUMMERVILLE – Sharmelle Holmes again grabbed a spot on the podium in multiple events at the SC Coaches Classic Elite meet in Summerville on Saturday.
Holmes placed second in the 100 meter dash at 11.94 and third in long jump at 17-10.70. She also finished fourth in the 200 meter dash with a time of 24.79. Holmes’s 200 meter time is a new personal best.
Athletes from 121 teams competed in the Coaches Classic.
Prior to Saturday’s event, the Griffins competed against C.A. Johnson, Chester, Great Falls, Irmo, Keenan, Lamar, Lewisville, Lower Richland and Strom Thurmond.
Tamerra English, Tanisha English, Imani Todd and Teairra McDuffie each had season best marks on the day. Tamerra English topped her time in the 100m dash at 13.09 for fourth place in the event. Tanisha English had a season-best 13.72 for 12th place in the finals. McDuffie placed third in the 1600m run with a season-best 6:58.99, and Todd’s high jump of 4-2 was her season-high for 6th place. The 4x100m relay team also had a season-high 50.85 for third place.
Other top-five finishers were Gianna Rhodes in the 1600m run (4th place) with a time of 7:31.38; Kindal Bagley (5th) in the 400 dash with a time of 1:07.46; McDuffie in the 800m run (5th) for 3:05.27.
Joshua Mosley grabbed three 1st place finishes and season-high times in the 800m run (2:04.01), 1600m run (4:43.55) and 3200m run (11:06.53).
Jai Boyd also topped the podium in a pair of events: high jump (5-10) and long jump (21-1). His long jump is a season-best.
Other top-five finishers for the Griffins were Derek Cammon, Hank White and Micaiah Chappell. Cammon and White tied for second place in pole vault at 7-0. Chappell placed second in 400m hurdles with a season-high 1:08.75 time.
Cammon had a season-high time of 2:11.70 for 4th place in the 800m run. White placed fourth in the 3200m run at 11:35.56. Chappell also had a season-best time of 19.25 in 110m hurdles for 5th place.
The Griffin boys relay teams picked up second, third and fourth place finishes on the day. The 4×400 relay team placed second at 4:32.23; the 4×100 relay team placed third with a season-best 44.50; and the 4×800 relay team finished in fourth at 9:50.86.
Fairfield will compete in the 3A Region 4 meet at Keenan on May 4.
