BLYTHEWOOD – Westwood and Blythewood softball teams came back from spring break Tuesday night, with the Bengals winning 17-2 at Spring Valley and the Redhawks falling 7-4 at home against Irmo.
Josie Smythe led the way for BHS, going 3-for-3 with a double, a home run, and 4 RBI. Lauren Hardy went 2-for-3 with a double, home run and 4 RBI. Hardy also got the win, pitching six innings and giving up a run on two hits. She struck out eight and walked four.
Westwood, down 5-0 going into the bottom of the fifth, staged a four-run rally in that frame, but came up short. Irmo scored two runs in the seventh and shut out the Redhawks in the bottom of that inning to seal the win.
MeAuhre Lewis led the Yellow Jackets at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two solo home runs. Emily Johnson went 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBI.
Westwood (9-6) is at Irmo and Blythewood (13-4) is at Dutch Fork today.
